Holiday Movie on the Mississippi -- **CANCELLED**

Due to inclement weather, organizers of the Holiday Movie on the Mississippi have canceled their Friday event out of an abundance of caution. The event was set to take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Plaza. Organizers plan to host another outdoor movie event next Friday.

Luna Fête

Friday, Dec. 8 – Sunday, Dec. 10

This free, four-day event by the Arts Council New Orleans kicked off this week and continues this weekend. The holiday-themed arts event blends lights and technology into an interactive art experience. Each night, Lafayette Square and nearby areas glows with illuminated installations, digital sculptures and projections from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Download the full map of 2017 art installations here.

Festival of the Bonfires

Friday, Dec. 8 – Sunday, Dec. 10

Celebrate Christmas Cajun style at this three-day festival traditionally a prelude to the lighting of 140 bonfires on Christmas Eve. The fest opens at 2 p.m. on Friday at Lutcher Park in Lutcher, La. Festivities include a gumbo cook-off, 5K run/walk race, car show, carnival rides, a children’s pageant, music performances, “Santa’s Very Merry Forest” and of course, a bonfire lighting each night.  Admission is $5. Children under age 10 and adults age 62+ enter free.

Marrero Holiday Parade

Saturday, Dec. 9

Parish and state representatives team up with the Jugs Social Club for the annual Marrero Holiday Parade. Bands, walking groups, dance teams and Santa and Mrs. Claus will all participate in the fun. Reindeer Run & Romp and Holiday Scavenger Hunt

Saturday, Dec. 9

Jingle along to this annual holiday fun run for kids and families on Canal Street. Participants will receive holiday goodies. Registration opens at 8 a.m., and the race starts at 9 a.m. The run begins and ends at the Shops at Canal Place. After the race, families can enjoy healthy activities, music, games, crafts and more.

Lights at the Lake Holiday Bash

Saturday, Dec. 9

Head to the New Canal Lighthouse for this free, festive celebration on the lake this Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dozens of local boat owners decorate their vessels with wreaths and lights and holiday decorations and assemble for the West End Christmas Boat Parade on the water. Festivities at the Lights at the Lake Holiday Bash also include live performances by a gospel choir, Benny Grunch and the Bunch and a book reading Tracie Morris Schaefer. Food provided by the Bourbon House, Mother’s and Court of Two Sister’s is available for purchase.

Santa Meets Sousa Holiday Concert

Saturday, Dec. 9

Families can enjoy a free holiday concert at the Saenger Theatre at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday. The Marine Corps Band New Orleans presents the annual “Santa Meets Sousa” holiday concert — a concert production including singing, theatrics, lighting, special effects and a few surprise guest artists. While admission is free, all seating requires an event ticket, which will be available at the Saenger Theatre box office (1111 Canal Street, New Orleans) beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8 through the show. Tickets are given out on a first come first serve basis. Organizers will also accept donations of new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots.

Running of the Santas

Saturday, Dec. 9

This “run” (a.k.a. festival and pub crawl) begins at Mannings at 3 p.m., where you can partake in drink specials and admire all the Santa costumes that participants are encouraged to wear. At 5:45 p.m., participants will run a few blocks to Generations Hall, where they can enjoy live music by Top Cats and Flow Tribe. Advance general admission is $20. You must be 21 to participate.
