This weekend, the New Orleans Home and Garden Show will showcase everything from electronics to energy efficient systems. Hundreds of vendors will feature home goods for both your indoor and outdoor needs starting this Friday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. However, after you've made the decision to buy that new hi-tech device or install that amazing new roof that’s going to cut your electric bill, it's important to make sure those items are insured. Take advantage of insurance discounts resulting from your great decisions! Local insurance expert Dan Burghardt offers these three tips for insuring your newest additions.
1. Shop around, and get online quotes.
Although most companies offer online quotes, they are usually tied to a single insurance company. An independent agent like Dan Burghardt allows you to find the best rates possible by comparing a number of homeowner’s insurance companies. It’s as easy as filling out a few questions through Dan Burghardt’s online quote request.
2. Don't forget flood insurance.
Many areas in New Orleans were removed from the required coverage area last year. However, that doesn’t mean you should go without purchasing flood insurance! One major electronic replacement could cost more than your yearly flood insurance policy. Eighty percent of Baton Rouge flooding victims lost everything. Many Baton Rouge homeowners did not purchase flood insurance because they were not required to carry it.
3. Research well in advance of your renewal date.
Your policy will renew with the same deductibles and applicable rate increases unless you make changes before a certain date. Dan’s team suggests sitting down with them well in advance of your renewal to review coverage options such as content replacement, living expenses and liability expenses.
