Participating restaurants will give out the kits from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. The survival kit contains a pair of solar eclipse glasses and a complimentary Chocolate Double Decker MoonPie. The kit comes free with the purchase of any entrée, sandwich or buffet while supplies last at participating restaurants. Guests may also purchase the survival kit without meal purchase for $3.

The Shoney’s location closest to the New Orleans metro area is 420 West Bank Expressway, Gretna, La. 70053.  Click here to find a Shoney’s location near you.

Doctors are warning not to look up without eclipse glasses viewing the solar eclipse. The proper glasses are equipped with mylar lenses that block out the UV rays. The glasses need be compliant with the ISO 12312-2 safety standards, and it should say this somewhere on the glasses.

Magazine Street eyeglass store, Warby Parker, also may still have more of these glasses for free. Get yourself some before they run out.

If you don’t have the proper, approved glasses you will have to view it indirectly using a pinhole projector.
