Memphis-based Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken planning a New Orleans location

One of the best fried chicken restaurants in Memphis plans to expand to several cities and targets New Orleans for one of its new locations.

Gus’ World Famous Fried Chicken is planning to add at least seven new locations in New Orleans, Chicago, Kentucky, Alabama, Maryland, and California, according to Memphis Business Journal.

Gus’ currently has 26 locations, but the restaurant’s president said her company doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.

The chicken chain, known for its hot-and-spicy fried chicken has been featured in regional and national publications, including a nod as the “best fried chicken in America” by Forbes Magazine.

Wendy McCrory said she’s particularly excited about seeing her company open a location in New Orleans.

“[New Orleans] is a home away from home for me,” McCrory said. “I was driving around [the Warehouse District] and saw [the location] and called my broker and said you have to find out about it.”

More than 60 years ago, the fried chicken chain began from the back door of a tavern in Mason, Tenn. Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken now has several restaurants across the U.S. with more than 20 locations in nearly a dozen states.
