Red Dress Run 2017: Big Changes Include New Location, Route

Runners looking forward to the annual Red Dress Run can expect some big changes to this year’s event. The event moves to a new location at Crescent Park on Saturday, August 12, according to the New Orleans Hash House Harriers.

The new route will start at Crescent Park, head down Esplanade and briefly into the French Quarter before going back into Crescent Park. The popular event paints the city red with a pre-run party starting at 9 a.m. The run starts at 11 a.m., followed by the post-run party back at Crescent Park. Everyone sports a little red dress at this charity run — including the men — as thousands of participants trek on a 2-mile run, walk, stroll or crawl along the route.

This year’s post-race party will feature entertainment from local go-go infused brass funk band, the Brass-A-Holics, and Remedy — a popular Baton Rouge-based teenage band.

Registration fees for the event vary. However, the earlier you register, the better for your pockets. Runners can register online until August 7 for $63. Runners can also register in person at the expo for $70. Last-minute registration will also be available on the day of the race for $80.

Participants must be 21 years of age on or before the event to participate in this adults-only party. Organizers say they will be no exceptions.

Since the first event, the Red Dress Run has raised around $2 million for more than 100 local charities.
