Grammy-nominated country artists Eli Young Band will headline the 2018 Uncle Sam Jam on Tuesday, July 3rd at Lafreniere Park. Jefferson Parish officials and organizers for the free, annual patriotic party announced this year’s lineup on Thursday.
Headliners Eli Young Band, formed by college roommates Mike Eli and James Young, released their first album in 2002. Today, the band has charted eight times on the Billboard country charts, with three of their singles reaching No. 1: “Crazy Girl,” which was the top country song of 2011 according to Billboard Year-End, along with “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” and “Drunk Last Night.” “Crazy Girl,” the 2012 ACM Song of the Year, went Double Platinum and the band has sold over five million singles.
Eli Young Band earned a Grammy nomination in 2013 for Best Country Duo or Group Performance for “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” and the band has earned numerous CMA and Billboard nominations. Eli Young Band’s newest single, “Love Ain’t,” was just released and will hit the airwaves this month. The band partnered with the Wounded Warrior Project for the song’s music video.
“Lafreniere Park is well known as one of the Crown Jewels of Jefferson Parish and, Uncle Sam Jam is a marquee event for the park. As councilman, my goal is to introduce new friends to the park and remind those who have enjoyed Lafreniere in the past of the potential of this sprawling 155-acre green space. As we celebrate our independence, we are also eager to promote the possibilities of Lafreniere Park,” Jefferson Parish District 4 Councilman Dominick Impastato said.
The festival will begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3 at the Al Copeland Concert & Meadow Stage in Lafreniere Park. This celebration will again feature unique festival food, including a variety of food trucks, a fireworks display that begins at 9 p.m. and music from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Amanda Shaw, Louisiana’s favorite fiddle sensation, will open for Eli Young Band at 6:00 p.m. The Topcats will follow the fireworks show, closing the event.
Uncle Sam Jam reached its highest audience level in 2017 when crowds were recorded at more than 25,000 visitors, the largest in the history of Uncle Sam Jam. Uncle Sam Jam will be held on July 3rd at the Al Copeland Concert & Meadow Stage in Lafreniere Park.
