Festival-goers can flock to the second annual NOLA Wing Wars festival at Central City BBQ set for Nov. 16.
The festival dedicated to chicken wings will showcase 25 local and regional restaurants competing to serve the winning wing. Restaurants will smoke, baste, sauce and fry more than 40,000 chicken wings.
Fest-goers and judges will vote for their favorite wings and crown “King (or Queen) of the Wing.” Winners will receive bragging rights as well as trophies.
Last year’s winners included Mopho, Ms. Linda The Ya-Ka-Mein Lady and Ma Momma’s House in the “Overall Wing Category.” Ling’s Wings, WOW Café and Fharmacy won in the “Hot Wing Category.” Both “The Fan Favorite” and “King of the Wing” was awarded to Fharmacy.
In addition to everyone’s favorite appetizer, the festival will also feature performances by Zac Maras & Cactus Thief, Nayo Jones, DJ T-Roy, DJ Jubilee and Caesar Brothers’ Funk Box. Football fans can keep track of college football games with two 15-foot, big-screen televisions in the Pit Room and additional TVs in the dining room.
NOLA Wing Wars was conceived and produced by Marc Bonifacic owner of Central City BBQ, Shane Finkelstein, producer of the popular Top Taco Nola and owner of Nacho Mama’s Mexican Grill and Joel Hitchcock producer of Marley Gras Jerk Chicken Festival and NOLA Caribbean Festival.
Bonifacic says he is looking forward to hosting some of his fellow BBQ and fry masters.
“New Orleans has become a BBQ town. NOLA Wing Wars is a chance to sample the best of the best, and compare local wings with regional offerings,” Bonifacic said.
The fest takes place from noon to 8 p.m.
