King Cake Hub will return with two new locations for Carnival 2021

King Cake Hub announced its king cake retail shop will move to two new locations for the 2022 Carnival season.

The Zony Mash Beer Project, the New Orleans microbrewery housed inside the former Gem Theater, will now serve as the king cake pop-up’s main location. King Cake Hub will be located in the Broad Street facing portion of the building at 1464 S. Broad Street in New Orleans.

King Cake Hub will also have a second pop-up location at Historic New Orleans Collection’s gift shop at 520 Royal Street. The partnership with HNOC is set to coincide with the upcoming Making Mardi Gras exhibition opening on Jan. 6.

In 2021, King Cake Hub was located at the Broad Theater, and in previous years, the hub was located at Mystère Mansion, home of the Mortuary Haunted House.

The endeavor was launched in 2019 by New Orleans entrepreneur Will Samuels, who died from cancer at age 52 in September 2021. Now in its fourth year, Jennifer Samuels will continue the legacy started by her late husband.

“This will be a bittersweet year as we mourn the loss of Will Samuels who had the crazy genius idea to bring all your favorite king cakes to one shop,” Jennifer Samuels said in a release announcing the changes.

The king cake retailer is known for offering some of the area’s most coveted king cakes at a single location.

Brennan’s is back this year with its traditional and Pink Parade king cakes, as well as a “special release” filled king cake.

NOCCA’s students are back in the kitchen working with Steve Himelfarb and the team from now-shuttered Cake Cafe offering their hugely popular Goat Cheese Apple. The beloved baker will also offer a new gluten and dairy-free cake this year.

Other returning partners are Caludas’s, Cannata’s, Caywood and Randazzo Bakery, Joe Gambino’s Bakery, Hi-Do Bakery, Bywater Bakery, Breads on Oak, Gracious, Bittersweet, Sugar Love and Big Boys Gooey Cakes.

Like in previous years, King Cake Hub will launch sales with its annual Carnival Kickoff Party on Jan. 6, which will be co-hosted with Zony Mash. Zony Mash and King Cake Hub will also collaborate to release a special edition King Cake Stout beer.

King Cake Hub will open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Jan. 6 through Lundi Gras. Delivery will be available through Door Dash.
