NEW ORLEANS (NOLA WEEKEND) - Several restaurants and bars across the New Orleans area will host Cinco de Mayo events to celebrate the Mexican holiday on Thursday, May 5.

This year, after the return of several major events and festivals like Mardi Gras, French Quarter Fest and Jazz Fest, Cinco de Mayo offers another boost for New Orleans-area bars and restaurants.

We gathered a list of restaurants offering specials and local festivities to help you celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

Los Jefes Grill Cinco de Mayo Fest

Metairie Mexican restaurant Los Jefes Grill brings back its annual Cinco de Mayo Fest for the sixth year at Fat City Park.

The event features food and drinks, live music and contests at the park, located at 3720 Hessmer Avenue in Metairie. The will also be a taco eating contest with a prize of free tacos for a year for the winner.

Grammy-nominated DJ Mannie Fresh headlines the event, with additional performances from DJ 2 Nyce, The Molly Ringwalds and La Tran-K Band.

General admission includes all-you-can-eat tacos for $40 per person. There’s also a cash-only bar featuring margaritas. VIP packages are available.

The event runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

‘Cinco Strikes Back’ at Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria

After taking a scaled-down hybrid approach last year, Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria returns full force with Cinco de Mayo fiestas at all three of its New Orleans locations in Mid-City the French Quarter and Uptown.

Starting in the afternoon, Felipe’s locations will offer live music, folklorico dancers, magicians, face painting, a photo booth and street performers.

All locations open at 11 a.m. for traditional dining and bar service: 301 N Peters Street, 6215 S. Miro Street and 411-1 N Carrollton Avenue.

Festivities at Felipe’s Mid-City location start at 5 p.m. and includes a performance from Fermin Ceballos & Merengue4-FOUR at 7:30 p.m. Fun kicks off at Felipe’s French Quarter location at 3 p.m. with a performance from Where Ya At Brass Band. Felipe’s Uptown location gets the party started at 4 p.m. with Will Dickerson & The Octavians.

Zócalo Fest 2022

Old Metairie eatery Zócalo Cocina Mexicana & Cantina will host Zócalo Fest, a free outdoor Cinco de Mayo fiesta at 2051 Metairie Road.

The free outdoor festival returns for its second year, featuring food with an emphasis on Latin culture and cuisine, with Mexican beers, a tequila tasting and margarita specials.

On-site food includes dishes from Zócalo, Brasa Churrasqueria, Baru Bistro & Tapas and Basin Seafood and Spirits.

DJs will provide music all day, starting at 11:30 a.m., and there will be live music performances by Julio and Cesar and Conjunto Tierra Linda Music from 4 p.m. until closing.

VIP tickets are available at the website and provide access to two private bars, with food tastings from each of the four sponsoring restaurants, and seating close to the dance floor and live music.

Cinco at the Park

Outdoor bar and party venue Culture Park hosts Cinco at the Park, just in time to make its four-year anniversary.

The event is hosted by comedian Rude Jude. DJ Jess and DJ Panda will provide the sounds. Gates open at 3 p.m.

Cinco de Mayo at Tacos Del Cartel

Metairie Mexican restaurant Tacos Del Cartel says it’s pulling out all the stops on Cinco de Mayo.

For the annual Mexican celebration, the restaurant will feature food and drink specials. DJ Medina will be on-site entertaining guests from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Drink specials include $2 house tequila shooters and $2 tequila jello shots. Festivities also include games like corn hole, oversized Connect Four and a stationary bike with a blender.

Tacos Del Cartel is located at 2901 David Dr., at the corner of David Dr. and Trenton St.

Cinco Palooza Fest

Day party hot spot Treehouse throws a Cinco Palooza Fest this year for Cinco de Mayo.

Trey Pound, DJ Keith Scott and DJ DNice curate the sounds. Treehouse will also offer drink specials and $5 margaritas until 7 p.m. Doors open at 4 p.m.

Margarita Mayhem at Vybes Nation

Vybes Nation, a multi-cultural food truck stop, arts and events venue, will host the eighth annual Margarita Mayhem Cinco de Mayo celebration and day party with Latin-inspired cuisine, DJs, drink specials and vendors. Tickets start at $10, and doors open at 4 p.m.

Cinco de Mayo at Otra Vez

Modern Central Business District Mexican restaurant Otra Vez will host drink and food specials to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

Specials include margarita pitchers for $40, tecate and tequila for $8 and a taco platter and margarita pitcher for $100.

DJ Chris Stylez will be on hand to provide the vibes.

El Paso Mexican Grill Cinco De Mayo Celebrations

Several El Paso Mexican Grill locations around the metro area will host Cinco de Mayo celebrations including the annual all-day celebration in Metairie.

Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at Lucy’s

Join Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar for a Cinco de Mayo Fiesta featuring all-day drink specials starting at 11 a.m. Later in the evening, the Warehouse District restaurant will dish out 5-cent margaritas for five minutes starting at 5 p.m.

Cimafunk + The Iguanas Cinco de Mayo

Music lovers can catch a Cinco de Mayo show at the Broadside.

Afro-Cuban artist Cimafunk and roots-rock band The Iguanas will both play sets at the outdoor venue on N. Broad Street.

Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts for 8 p.m. General admission tickets are $30, plus fees.

Cinco De Mayo Fiesta at Mr. Tequila

Freret Street Mexican restaurant Mr. Tequila will host an all-day fiesta, including “free shots for those who dance.”

Festivities kick off at 11 a.m., with a DJ playing tunes from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Plus, drink specials and tequila sampling will also be on tap. The restaurant said it will also have an outdoor taco stand on Freret Street.

Cinco de Mayo at Velvet Cactus

Lakeview Mexican eatery Velvet Cactus will set up shop for Cinco de Mayo starting at 11 a.m.

The restaurant says it will set up the parking lot with extra bars, taco stands and bathrooms. Plus, guests can take advantage of Patron specials all day.

Live entertainment includes performances from Cypress Pop from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and DJ Funk Master from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
