NEW ORLEANS (NOLA WEEKEND) - As high temperatures continue to blaze this summer in southeast Louisiana, three New Orleans museums hope to offer a cool way to escape the heat this August.
The Helis Foundation announces its return of “Art & A/C,” a summer program that gives Louisiana residents free admission to the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans Museum of Art and Ogden Museum of Southern Art every Saturday in August.
Louisiana residents who visit these participating museums each Saturday in August also have a chance to enjoy special giveaways, the Helis Foundation said in a release.
“Art & A/C is a great excuse to get out and explore some of New Orleans’ ‘coolest’ museums,” said Jessie Schott Haynes, managing director of The Helis Foundation. “As an extension of our Art for All program, we strive to provide Louisiana residents access to the many wonderful cultural institutions this city has to offer as a way to stay cool and inside in the August heat.”
Art & A/C takes place this year at these three participating museums on Aug. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Patrons are encouraged to visit each institution’s website for hours of operation and other details.
Art & A/C is an extension of the Helis Foundation’s Art for All Program. Outside of free admission this August, the Helis Foundation also helps provide free admission for all Louisiana residents at leading local institutions year-round.
Louisiana residents, with valid identification, can get free admission to NOMA and the New Orleans Botanical Garden every Wednesday; the Ogden Museum every Thursday; the Contemporary Arts Center every Sunday and the Louisiana Children’s Museum the second Sunday of every month.
The foundation also supports outdoor public art installations that are available to anyone seven days per week. A selection of these projects includes Poydras Corridor Sculpture Exhibition and Unframed, a project of Arts New Orleans.
New Orleans & Company also recently announced New Orleans Museum Month, which gives free admission to more than a dozen museums in August. It offers museum members the opportunity to visit all participating institutions, free of charge, using their current museum membership.
