Juvenile, Partners N Crime, DJ Jubilee to headline 2023 Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo

NEW ORLEANS (NOLA WEEKEND) - Rapper and Cash Money Records alum Juvenile will be joined by Partners N Crime and DJ Jubilee to headline Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo, which returns to the banks of Bayou St. John from May 19 to May 21.

Other headliners include The Yonder Mountain String Band, Boyfriend, Reverend Horton Heat and The Iceman Special, organizers announced Tuesday.

For the first time, Bayou Boogaloo will also introduce a stage devoted exclusively to comedy programming this year. New Orleans-born comedian Sean Patton will headline the first-ever comedy stage.

Patton, who’s currently based in New York, recently premiered his first full-length comedy special “Sean Patton: Number One,” which was filmed at legendary New Orleans music club Tipitina’s.

Other comedians performing on this stage, formerly known as the Lafitte Stage, include Rude Jude, Vincent Zambon, Kymbra Li, Mark Caesar, JQ Palms & Thomas Jones, and Isaac Kozell & Geoffrey Gauchet.

“We are beyond excited to once again bring a top notch music line-up to our long-time home on the banks of Bayou St. John,” Jared Zeller, festival producer, founder and president of Friends of Bayou St. John, said in a release. “Along with a music line-up including great local talent, we’re excited to introduce a comedy stage where numerous comedians will be able to share a laugh with Boogaloo attendees.”

Also new this year, Krewe de Void will take over the Dumaine stage on Saturday, May 20 with their own curated line-up and installations featuring The Iceman Special, The Rumble, Dinny Skip, and Tasche and the Psychedelic Roaches — plus a Yoga session. Krewe de Void hosts the annual Fête du Void in Oakdale, Louisiana, an annual two-day camping, music and arts getaway led by The Iceman Special.

The complete 2023 music line-up includes Juvenile with Partners-N-Crime & DJ Jubilee, Yonder Mountain String Band, Boyfriend, Reverend Horton Heat, Rebirth Brass Band, The Iceman Special, Eddie 9V, Bonerama, Hot 8 Brass Band, People Museum, Bon Bon Vivant, The Rumble, The Low End Theory Players, Letrainiump, Tasche & The Psychedelic Roaches, Marcella Simien, Johnny Sansone Band, Dinny Skip, The Quickening, Them Ol’ Ghosts, and NOLA School of Rock.

Comedians include: Sean Patton, Rude Jude, Vincent Zmabon, Kymbra Li, Mark Caesar, Ukulele Jokes with Jo Palms and & Thomas Jones, Wait. What?, and a comedy drinking game featuring Isaac Kozell & Geoffrey Gauchet.

In addition to music on two stages and a comedy stage, Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo boasts a curated arts market, a Kid’s tent and crafts area, a VIP Canopy Club, and food from over 20 local vendors. The festival is also known for its paddling and yoga activities.

Three-day weekend passes are currently on sale for $25, which will increase to $50 as the festival nears, organizers say.

Single-day tickets, at the price of $15, will be available beginning on March 1. One single-day ticket provides admission on any of the three days. VIP passes are also available for purchase.

Every festival attendee on the water will need a regular-priced ticket to the festival for entry, which includes a $2 environmental fee that goes to preserving and protecting Bayou St. John, organizers say. Anyone or group who desires to put a homemade barge in the water will be required to leave a $100 deposit, which will be refunded upon the user’s removal of the barge.
