White Linen Night, the annual art lovers block party, returns on Aug. 7

NEW ORLEANS (NOLA WEEKEND) - White Linen Night, the annual Warehouse District block party for art lovers, is set to return on Aug. 5.

Arts District New Orleans, the organization that founded the popular event, announced that this year’s expanded block party will stretch to St. Joseph Street for the first time. The 2023 event will also feature extensive street activations, live music, an interactive art wall and the debut of an app-based scavenger hunt with a “weekend getaway in the Arts District” grand prize.

During the block party, contemporary art galleries, museums and institutions welcome guests to view exhibitions from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the 300 to 600 blocks of Julia Street in the New Orleans’ historic Warehouse Arts District, as well as for the first time the 500 block of Saint Joseph Street - bridging the Julia-Street thoroughfare.

Each gallery will present new exhibitions, with world-class art installations from the talented artists represented. This year’s event will feature nearly two dozen exhibitions.

Art-centered street activations are also set to return, including a Cool Down Lounge and a “Coloring Book Garden” teaser ahead of LUNA Fete’s 10th anniversary later this year.

In addition to the Julia and Saint Joseph Streets block party event, member galleries off-Julia will also welcome guests, and area institutions The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) and The Ogden Museum of Southern Art will also open their doors and unveil new exhibitions of juried open calls featuring artists from the region.

The organization says it encourages guests to don their white linen while strolling down Julia Street. While visiting the galleries, local vendors will provide food and drink.

Some local food trucks and vendors serving at the event include Swinel Richie Charity Food Trailer, Crazy Waffle Bar, Tre’s Street Kitchen, Big O’s Popsicles, Da Grillmaster Smoke Soul BBQ, Southern’s, Moon Garden, Wolf’s Burger Truck, Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar (mobile unit, Rustic Press, Hype Eatz, Jacquel’s Catering and NOLA Cookie Co.
