Dave Chappelle to headline comedy show at Smoothie King Center in September

NEW ORLEANS (NOLA WEEKEND) - Comedian Dave Chappelle is set to headline a show at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on Sept. 15.

Chappelle announced he’s hitting the road this fall for his stand-up comedy tour called “Dave Chappelle Live.” The tour opens with a pair of dates at Madison Square Garden this August in New York City and wraps up in Chicago in October.

Ticket sales launch with local presales on Wednesday, July 26. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 27 via Ticketmaster.com 

The Emmy Award-winning comedian, actor and producer has been recognized for his sharp and irreverent comedy, which often explores controversial social issues. He is widely known as the mastermind behind the 2003 sketch comedy hit, “The Chappelle Show,” one of the highest-rated programs on Comedy Central.

The comedian also recently won a Grammy Award for “Best Comedy Album” in 2023 for his most recent Netflix special “The Closer,” which received backlash for material focused on the transgender community.

This show will be a strict, cell phone-free event, with no cameras or recording devices allowed, according to the Smoothie King Center’s website. Organizers say anyone caught with a cell phone in the venue will be immediately ejected.

Chappelle’s last visit to New Orleans was for his sold-out comedy concert co-headlined with comedian Joe Rogan in 2021.
