33 parades rolling this weekend, Feb. 14 – 16: See schedule, maps

Valentine’s Day weekend gets even sweeter in New Orleans with the magic of Mardi Gras. Carnival kicks into high gear with nearly three dozen parades spanning across New Orleans and its surrounding areas.

The Krewe of Cork pops off another weekend of parades with a stroll through the French Quarter at 3 p.m. on Friday. Then, the first Uptown parades of the season get rolling, starting at 6 p.m., with the Krewes of Oshun, Alla and Legion of Mars and Cleopatra. Parade-goers will see the Valentine’s Day theme taken on by a couple of krewes. Oshun will illustrate the love theme on several floats, and Cleopatra’s Valentine’s Vixens will also roll with romance-themed floats.

On the North Shore, cute canines parade in Krewe du Paws in Olde Towne Slidell at 10 a.m. on Saturday. FOX 8 anchor Kim Holden reigns as grand marshal with her royal princess Daisy riding on the Old Town Soda Shop Fire Truck. This year’s theme is “Bad to the Bone!”

Parade-goers can see a new krewe rolling in Jefferson Parish’s Family Gras celebration.

The Magical Krewe of MadHatters promises whimsy, innovation and celebrity in its inaugural parade at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Twenty-six floats will roll in the parade with an “Alice in Wonderland” theme. MadHatter Bobby Hebert, the krewe’s monarch, reigns alongside Amanda Shaw as Alice. FOX 8 chief meteorologist David Bernard and sports director Juan Kincaid joins the krewe as celebrity riders on float No. 7.

Also, for the first time in five years, the Krewe of Atlas heads back on the Metairie parade route at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

All Metairie krewes will parade on the new westbound route heading to the Family Gras Clearview Center concert venue. Beach Boys founder and songwriter Brian Wilson, the Marshall Tucker Band, and a family tribute to Ricky Nelson headline the 2020 Family Gras weekend concerts.

The Krewe of Freret plans for a special 2020 ride rolling into the inaugural “Shorty Gras” concert ball on Saturday.

Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews reigns as the official Grand Marshal. To honor the special occasion, the parade has constructed a new signature float featuring a gigantic animatronic of Trombone Shorty and a dazzling light show.

The inaugural Shorty Gras line-up includes Cash Money Records producer and deejay Mannie Fresh; “rap-caberet” performance artist Boyfriend, backed by members of the Revivalists; the Soul Rebels, Sweet Crude; and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux & the Golden Eagles.

Dog lovers can catch the Mystic Krewe of Barkus parading through the French Quarter at 2 p.m. on Sunday. With this year’s theme, “Bark to the Future: Barkus Returns to the 80s,” countless canine krewe members will fuel up their flux capacitors, feather their hair and take to the streets for its 28th year.
