5 Reasons Why George Strait Headlining Bayou Country Superfest is a Big Deal

Bayou Country Superfest announced that George Strait will be headlining the Memorial Day weekend festival in 2018. Here are five reasons why having the "King of Country Music" as this year's headliner is such a big deal.

He's Pretty Much Stopped Touring

“I’m not retiring, just not going to tour anymore,” Strait said back in 2012 when he announced his farewell tour, “The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.” So, seeing the “King of Country Music” perform on stage is a rare opportunity. Plus, Bayou Country Superfest is Strait’s only scheduled festival appearance in 2018.

He's One of the Most Prolific Country Artists

Strait has more number one songs than any other artist in history, including Elvis Presley. That record includes 60 No. 1 songs. He also holds the record for the most CMA wins with 22. Strait is the most nominated artist in CMA history with 81 nominations. He’s also the only artist in of any music genre to have a Top 10 hit every year for thirty years.  Need we say more?

His Concert Attendance Shatters Records

While he holds more than 20 attendance records at venues across the United States, his 2014 “The Cowboy Rides Away Tour finale at AT&T Stadium in Dallas shattered the North American indoor concert attendance record, according to Texas country music station Kean 105.1. The concert drew an impressive 104,793 fans. The record holders prior to this were the Rolling Stones with their 1981 concert at the Superdome in New Orleans. The attendance at that concert was 87,500 fans.

He Is Beloved By Other Superstars

Artists like Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Taylor Swift, Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert have all gushed about George Strait, according to CMT News. Garth Brooks said he wanted to be him. Tim McGraw said he grew up listening to his music and that has a been a huge influence on him. Taylor Swift calls him a “father figure,” recalling going on tour with him at 17 years old. Blake Shelton called him the “King of the World.”  Maybe fans will be lucky enough to spot one of Strait’s many celebrity fans at the concert.

It's An Affordable Concert

George Strait is only playing three times between now and Memorial Day Weekend. Two of those shows are in Vegas, and one show is in Nashville.  Ticket prices to those shows range from $130 to $595. You can get tickets to Bayou Country Superfest starting at $50. That’s quite a deal to see this music legend.
