Satchmo SummerFest

Friday, Aug. 2 – Sunday, Aug. 4

A dozen acts make their Satchmo SummerFest debut when the annual three-day festival returns to the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Mint this weekend. Music lovers can enjoy more than 30 acts during the festival celebrating beloved New Orleans musician Louis Armstrong. Satchmo SummerFest also features seminars and food from popular restaurants. Daily admission is $6. Children age 12 and under enter free.

Coolinary dining deals launch this August

Friday, Aug. 2 – Sunday, Aug. 4

Diners, get your plates ready. You can take advantage of some great dining deals all weekend. August kicks off the month-long Coolinary dining experience offering prix fixe menus at some of the city’s top restaurants. This year, more than 100 restaurants offer foodies dining deals, while trying to survive the slow summer. The 15th annual Coolinary promotion returns Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, featuring special two-course and three-course lunch menus for $20 or less and three-course dinner and brunch menus for $39 or less.

Tammany Taste of Summer offers dining deals this August

Friday, Aug. 2 – Sunday, Aug. 4

Similar to Coolinary, nearly two dozen Northshore restaurants will offer deals during the 2019 Tammany Taste of Summer this August. Participating Northshore restaurants will be offering specials and prix fixe brunch, lunch and dinner deals from Aug. 1 to Aug. 31. Prices for two-course and three-course prix fixe meals range from $20 to $30. In addition to restaurant deals, the event also boasts a calendar of fun culinary-related events hosted by Northshore-area restaurants.

Local museums offer free admission for 'Museum Month'

Friday, Aug. 2 – Sunday, Aug. 4

More than a dozen local museums will offer free admission in August during “New Orleans Museum Month.” Guests can take advantage of this summer steal as long as you’re a member at a participating institution. The promotion includes a mix of major art museums and cultural landmarks throughout the greater New Orleans area. Some of the notable locations include the National WWI Museum, New Orleans Museum of Art and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

Hancock Whitney White Linen Night

Saturday, Aug. 3

Dress in your best white for this annual block party on Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Warehouse District. A sea of white fills Julia Street for free openings at several galleries and museums. The event is free, but patrons can purchase tickets for food and drink. Tickets are sold in bundles of 10 for $12 (the extra $2 covers the CAC’s credit card fees). The Contemporary Arts Center also hosts White Linen After Dark, the official White Linen Night after party from 8 p.m. to midnight. Tickets to the after party are $10 in advance and $20 at the door.

FOX 8 School Supply Drive 2019

Saturday, Aug. 3

While you’re out shopping for school supplies, we’re asking you to consider donating to help other local children. FOX 8 will be at three area Walmart stores on Saturday. Make a donation and visit with our FOX 8 talent. The drop off locations are at the Walmart at 1901 Tchoupitoulas in New Orleans, the Covington Wal-Mart, 880 N Highway 190 and the Metairie location at 8912 Veterans Boulevard. The supplies will be donated to local school districts to help students in need.

Red Bull Dance Your Style: New Orleans

Saturday, Aug. 3

Dancers from across the country head to New Orleans to complete at Red Bull Dance Your Style on Saturday. From hip hop, to house — locking to popping, more than a dozen dancers in multiple genres complete in hopes of advancing a National Final competition in Vegas. The event happens from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Generations Hall.

Black and Gold Fan Fest

Sunday, August 4

Saints fans can cheer on the team at the free Black and Gold Fan Fest at Tulane University’s Yulman Stadium on Sunday. The Bucktown All-Stars are set to perform at the event. Team mascots Gumbo and Sir Saint are scheduled to appear, as well as the Saintsations. During the event, there will be fan activities and a raffle for items including free Saints game tickets, autographed items and other prizes. The fan festival takes places on Brown Field, located just outside of the Reily Center, prior to Saints Training Camp Practice from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
