Christmas Under the Stars

Friday, Dec 1 – Saturday, Dec. 2

Slidell gets decked out for the holiday season this weekend with the annual holiday celebration. See twinkling lights, holiday decorations, Slidell’s Nativity, life-size Christmas cottages each night in Griffith Park in Olde Towne Slidell from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Christmas in Lafreneire Park Opens

Friday, Dec. 1 – Sunday, Dec. 3

This holiday exhibit at Lafreniere Park sparkles with thousands of twinkling lights and displays like a 60-foot sea serpent and the gingerbread man. Admission is $5 per vehicle. Enter the park from the West Napoleon Avenue access gate. The Children’s carousel will be open nightly for $1 per child. This exhibit is open Sunday through Thursday from dusk until 9:45 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from dusk until 11:45 p.m.

Beignet Fest

Saturday, Dec. 2

Try everything from traditional beignets to seafood-stuffed beignets at the Beignet Festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival was originally scheduled for the first Saturday in October but was rescheduled due to the threat of Hurricane Nate. New elements have been added, like a Holiday artist village and an updated VIP experience. The musical line-up consists of Brass-a-holics, John “Papa” Gros Band, One Love Brass Band and Hill Country Hounds. Entry to the festival is free.

Krewe of Jingle Parade

Saturday, Dec. 2

Holiday characters like the beloved Mr. Bingle light up the city at the annual Krewe of Jingle Parade. Get your fill of marching bands and holiday-themed floats. The parade starts at 1 p.m. at Lee Circle and makes its way down St. Charles Avenue to Canal Street, returning to Howard Avenue via Baronne Street. See the full parade route here.

Algiers Bonfire on the Levee

Saturday, Dec. 2

Head to Algiers Point on Saturday for the West Bank’s largest bonfire from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Festivities include a concert and a second line prior to the bonfire lighting. Food vendors will also be on-site. The event at 200 Morgan Street is free and open to the public.

Norco Christmas Parade

Sunday, Dec. 3

After being rained out in 2016, the St. Charles Parish Christmas tradition rolls once again on Sunday starting at 2 p.m. This year’s parade theme “Norco Noel: Santa Salutes First Responders” will honor the bravery by first responders. After the parade, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be available for free photos at the community Christmas tree on Apple Street. Children receive a giant candy cane as well. New Orleans Saints vs. Carolina Panthers

Sunday, Dec. 3

Saints fans are keeping hope alive as the team heads back to the Superdome for an important division matchup against the Carolina Panthers at 3:25 p.m. Head to Champions Square for live pregame entertainment.
