Celebration in the Oaks Opens

Breathtaking light displays adorn New Orleans City Park for the annual Celebration in the Oaks opening for this holiday season starting on Friday at 6 p.m. The Botanical Gardens, Storyland and Carousel Gardens come alive with festive holiday lights. This year Celebration in the Oaks celebrates Mr. Bingle’s 70th birthday and will feature “snow” in the amusement park.

Bayou Classic Battle of the Bands and Greek Show

Friday, Nov. 24

This annual tradition on the road to the Bayou Classic features show-stopping performances from some of the best step teams and marching bands in the country. The Battle of the Bands and Greek Show takes over the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at 6 p.m. on Friday. Celebrity guests include actress, comedian and television personality Sheryl Underwood and musical director of Tyler Perry films Elvin Ross. Tickets can be purchased for $20 in advance through Ticketmaster or for $25 at the door.

Bayou Classic Parade, Fan Fest and Game

Saturday, Nov. 25

The annual showdown between the Southern University Jaguars and the Grambling State University Tigers gives fans plenty of festivities surrounding Thanksgiving weekend. The tradition culminates with the Bayou Classic football matchup at 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Other notable events include the Bayou Classic Parade which moves to game day at 9:30 a.m. starting at N. Peters and Elysian Fields and ending at Loyola and Perdido. The free, Bayou Classic Fan Fest also happens on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Among the performers is Rapper T.I., who headlines the concert.

Partners-N-Crime and DJ Jubilee 25th Anniversary Celebration

Saturday, Nov. 25

Join New Orleans bounce music legends Partners-N-Crime and DJ Jubilee this Saturday at the Joy Theatre. The artists celebrate 25 years of pumping the party. This anniversary celebration brings out several local favorites including Big Freedia, Kermit Ruffins, Shamarr Allen, James Andrews and Amanda Ducorbier. The party starts at 8 p.m. Ticket prices range from $25 to $50.

Kenner Christmas Village Opens

Saturday, Nov. 25 – Sunday, Nov. 26

The Kenner Christmas Village lights up Kenner starting this Saturday. The festive holiday village relocates to Kenner City Park this year and illuminates the area with animated scenery. There’s also local entertainment, ice skating, a Santa’s workshop, food vendors, shopping and a Biergarten. The village opens on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. Christmas Village admission is free.

Sailing with Santa

Saturday, Nov. 25

Children of all ages are invited to take a free ride on the Steamboat Natchez for an opportunity to take a picture with Santa Claus while sailing down the Mississippi River. There will be special activities on board such as spray-on Christmas tattoos, balloon elves, and a chance to write a letter to Santa. Lunch will be available for purchase. Each participant must bring a new, unwrapped toy for children, ages infant to 17 years, in order to board the free cruise. Gift drop begins at 1:30 p.m., cruise begins 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Teddy Bear Tea at the Roosevelt Hotel

Sunday, Nov. 26

This Sunday kicks off the first Teddy Bear Tea of the holiday season at the Roosevelt Hotel. The event presents delicious food, specialty teas and tasty pastries starting at 1 p.m. There’s also sparkling wine and mimosas for adults. Mrs. Claus will share some of her favorite holiday stories, and special North Pole visitors will parade through the ballroom. Each attendee gets a keepsake Roosevelt Teddy Bear. Pictures with Santa will be available for purchase. General reserved seating is priced at $67.38 for children ages 3-10 and $94.33 for all older than 11, including adults.

Jefferson SPCA Pet Fest

The Jefferson SPCA Pet Fest finally hits Lafreniere Park this Sunday after the threat of severe weather forced organizers to reschedule. The mega pet event features an “Adopt-A-Thon” offering hundreds of adoptable pets along with local cuisine and live entertainment. Festival hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
