Aboard the Cajun Christmas Express, hear a festive retelling of the Louisiana Christmas tale that's been around for decades.
A family in St. Bernard Parish puts on a Christmas show in a socially-distant way. The Parish Marina launched the Cajun Christmas Express, a holiday boat tour where performers tell stories, sings songs and tell the “Cajun Night Before Christmas” during the cruise with a billboard display of pages from the book.
Each performance is being sold to family units for safety.
Owner Monty Montelongo and his family are at the helm aboard the Cajun Christmas Express, but this isn’t your typical boat ride.
“There’s a little bit of mystique about being on the boat at night and going through the ‘Cajun Night Before Christmas Story,'” Montelongo said.
On this boat tour, Cajun Christmas traditions come to life on Bayou Bienvenue in St. Bernard Parish.
“It’s really a production, and we have two live storytellers that serve hot chocolate and cookies,” Montelongo said.
Actors lend their talents to a retelling of the Louisiana Christmas tale that’s been around for decades.
“On the boat ride itself, they’re discussing more traditional Christmas activities versus the Cajun Christmas activities, and it’s a really good storyline behind it,” Montelongo said.
The hour-long ride mixes music and a little local history. You might even spot some wildlife along the way.
“There’s something so unique about St. Bernard Parish, and we just want to spread that joy to our locals and our tourists alike,” Montelongo said.
Along this swampy bayou, a festive outdoor setting for your pod for a little holiday cheer before Papa Noel comes to town.
“And with COVID mitigation in mind we decided to sell just family unit packages on the boat ride as opposed to just filling the boat ticket by ticket,” Montelongo said. “You’ll sing songs as long as you can, we hope, and have a good time.”
