Another Jazz Fest pop-up: Here’s how to get a Natchitoches Meat Pie from Mrs. Wheat’s Foods

Another Jazz Fest favorite hits the lineup of popular food pop-ups taking place in response to the festival’s cancellation. Mrs. Wheat’s Foods will bring fans its spicy Natchitoches meat pies through a curbside pick-up this weekend.

Mrs. Wheat’s Foods will host the pop-up at its St. Roch distribution warehouse at 2519 Agriculture Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 1 to Sunday, May 3.

The vendor will sell various quantities of frozen pies for people to deep fry or bake at home.

In addition to the original spicy meat pies, products like the Creole crawfish pie and Creole hot sausage pie will also be available for purchase. Other mini-sized versions are available with crab and artichoke and shrimp and andouille stuffings.

Unfortunately, the vendor says its popular broccoli and cheese pies made specifically for Jazz Fest won’t be available for the pop-up.

The vendor will sell its regular-sized, large 3.5-ounce pies in quantities of four, 12 and 48. The mini sized one-ounce pies are available in quantities of 20, 50 and 100.

Orders can be placed online at to be picked up from the pop-up location. Upon online checkout at the vendor’s website, there is an option to select local pick-up. Free local delivery is also available through the d’liverynola app.

A product of Northern Louisiana popularized in Natchitoches, the modern meat pie contains ground meat, onions, peppers, parsley, garlic and spices in a light, flaky crescent-shaped crust.

Mrs. Wheat’s Foods joins the Vaucresson family’s famous hot sausage po-boy and other popular Jazz Fest food vendors hosting pop-ups to stay afloat.
