Here's how to make shopping for school supplies stress-free.
School is right around the corner, and it's time to shop. If you haven't tackled your shopping list yet, our friends at the New Orleans Moms Blog have tips to help make it stress-free.
Back to Routine
Just a few short (looong) weeks ago, Moms across the country were celebrating that they would get a break from alarms, packing lunches, and ironing uniforms. Approximately 48-hours after the praise began, these same moms were counting down the days to when school would return their lives to schedules and lists. Why? Because we secretly love the routine (and the quiet)!
So. Many. Lists.
Before the crazy schedules and running from carpool to practices, scouts and clubs, we are inundated with LISTS. School supply lists, lists of necessary uniform items, lists of back-to-school events like orientation, open house and meet-the-teachers. If you have multiple children like me, this results in an overwhelming volume of lists. New Orleans Moms Blog has some tips on how to help reduce the stress (and expense) that comes from trying to tackle the Back-to-School chaos.
Finding brands you love and keeping an eye out for sales is key! One item we love is Kwik Stix Solid Tempura Paints. Kwik Stix have a fast drying formula that allows them to dry in 90 seconds while still leaving a paint-like finish. No cups, smocks, water or brushes required. All four of my children ages 1 to 9 love these and as parents and teachers, we love the cleanup!
Early Bird Gets the Deal
We’ve found more success in shopping for items early in the day. Morning hours tend to be less crowded and the stock more full. Walmart and Target seem to have the best prices and to be open to visiting multiple stores for the best prices. Check circulars or online ads before you head out.
Stay in Your PJs
I prefer to do most of my shopping online, so Amazon, Staples and Office Depot is where I tend to score deals on supply list items. I often buy in bulk so that I can split the two-pocket folders, etc… across multiple kids and find that many times the bulk items are the same price as the one or two packs! Another way I save money is by purchasing uniform items at the Children’s Place during their annual sale and having them embroidered locally. This year, I scored great quality uniform shirts for $4.30 each.
