Ben & Jerry’s plans to stock store shelves with CBD-infused ice cream

New ice cream alert! Well, maybe sometime in the future.

Ben & Jerry’s says it plans to step into the CBD game, as soon as cannabidiol is legal at the federal level. For now, an FDA regulation prevents CBD from being added to food and beverages without its approval.

“We’re doing this for our fans,” CEO Matthew McCarthy said in a statement. “We’ve listened and brought them everything from Non-Dairy indulgences to on-the-go portions with our Pint Slices. We aspire to love our fans more than they love us and we want to give them what they’re looking for in a fun, Ben & Jerry’s way.”

The company is no stranger when it comes to standing up and showing out, whether it be politics or giving us tasty new flavors. The brand even has a whole section on their website dedicated to the issues they care about. See more here.

Still, fans are split – some are all for it while others take umbrage with the company’s politics.

An Instagram post teased fans about the CBD-infused product Ben & Jerry’s is hoping to fill store shelves soon. At last checked, the post received more than 50,000 likes.

Here are a few opinions from followers:

  • “This is crazy cool I love you guys.”
  • “Love the ice cream but the liberal hippie crap like this is a major turn off!”
  • “But will it be dairy free??”

If the ice cream innovation can move forward, Ben & Jerry’s will use sustainably-sourced CBD from Vermont, where the company is based.
