Celebration in the Oaks returns with driving and walking tour experience this holiday season

Celebration in the Oaks, the big holiday lights event at City Park, will return with both driving tour and walking tour experiences from Nov. 25 to Jan. 2.

This year, the event will also include two brand new features: an outdoor bar in the Botanical Garden and a festive train experience with on-board entertainment, New Orleans City Park officials announced.

Due to the pandemic, City Park shifted the beloved holiday event in 2020 to a drive-thru experience for the first time since pre-Katrina. Officials say the highly-successful driving tour attracted more than 185,000 visitors.

Along with the return of the driving tour, Celebration in the Oaks will bring back its classic walking tour experience in Carousel Gardens Amusement Park. The expanded Carousel Gardens experience features unlimited access to its popular attractions, dancing light shows, hot chocolate, marshmallow roasting, train rides and a snow area.

For 2021, the exhibit also features a special display as a salute to medical personnel: a light exhibit featuring the Caduceus, a popular symbol of medicine, and hearts.

During the 2.25-mile driving tour, visitors will see City Park’s giant live oaks covered in more than a million twinkling lights and those breathtaking light displays scattered throughout the park.

Several fan favorites will return including the pirate ship, dinosaurs, aquatic animals, horse-drawn carriage, the unicorn, St. Louis Cathedral and French Quarter scenes.

Ticket prices are based on dates, times and vehicle sizes. All tickets for the event must be purchased online in advance. City Park officials say a limited number of tickets will be sold per day and time slot.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the annual holiday lights festival. Celebration in the Oaks will close on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
