City Park will extend its “Floats in the Oaks” drive-thru experience until Mardi Gras, officials announced.
City Park released more tickets on sale for Monday, Feb. 15 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 16 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
At Floats in the Oaks, Spectators can view more than 40 floats from various krewes, including Rex, Zulu, Endymion and Bacchus. City Park officials say they expect these tickets to sell out very quickly.
Some popular floats in the lineup include Rex’s Bouef Gras, Bacchus’ Bacchagator and the Krewe of Freret’s float depicting Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews with a 30-foot trombone.
The event also features live entertainment, flambeaux, dancers and Carnival music. Socially-distant performers, like Mardi Gras dance group the Pussyfooters, also help bring the feeling of a Mardi Gras party.
The ‘Floats in the Oaks’ route is 1.3 miles long, spanning Palm Drive and Roosevelt Mall. The concept is similar to the drive-through version of City Park’s annual Celebration in the Oaks, where guests can drive past dazzling displays.
Vehicles will enter the park, similar to Celebration in the Oaks, and drive through a float-lined path to view a collaboration of Mardi Gras floats. The event will offer both nighttime and daytime ticket opportunities.
