Cool or crazy? Pickle bouquets are totally a thing for Valentine’s Day

Instead of the normal flowers and candy for Valentine’s Day, this year maybe gift a pickle bouquet!

Yes, you’ve read right. Pickle bouquets are totally the thing right now. The idea came from Grillo’s, a Boston-based pickle company. Though the company doesn’t actually sell the arrangements to order, they encourage others to recreate the edible expression of love.

“Not only is a pickle bouquet more beautiful than a dozen red roses, and healthier than a standard box of chocolate, it’s also far more creative,” said Grillo’s founder and CEO Travis Grillo.

OK, to be fair, the bouquet has a few peppers blended in here and there. But it’s totally the perfect blend of sour and spice. And it would be a great Valentine’s Day idea if your significant other is a pickle lover.

Grillo shares that the idea for the bouquet was the result of inspiration from a 100-year-old Italian family recipe involving cucumbers, salt, dill, garlic, water, grape leaves and vinegar.

Want to know how to make your own? First, select a bunch of you or your loved one’s favorite pickles. Grillo’s suggests adding a few flavors into the bunch, like dill, hot, bread and butter, and various shapes and sizes. Next, to arrange your selection use bamboo kebab skewers and toothpicks to hold it all together.

Now, one must garnish! Oh yes! Use herbs and various peppers to complete the bouquet. Hopefully by now, you’re getting inspired to make your own pickle bouquet. Go ahead and put your creativity skills to the test.

And if you’re absolutely obsessed, there are whole gift sets full of merchandise dedicated to pickle fans.

But we think making the pickle bouquet is totally worth the try and your lover will love you for it.
