Now in its 16th year, Coolinary New Orleans, the annual summer dining promotion, returns at a time when restaurants need help the most.
Many restaurants already fighting to survive an unprecedented pandemic head into the historically slow summer months. Several restaurants already announced temporary closures after rounds of tightened restrictions, including Port of Call’s abrupt closure only one day after reopening.
This year’s Coolinary promotion features an updated, pandemic-conscious format spanning longer than its typical, one-month period from Aug. 1 to Sept. 13.
Unlike previous years, participating restaurants can offer delivery and take-out options this year. Another new aspect is the inclusion of counter service restaurants.
What hasn’t changed is foodies getting an opportunity to take advantage of dining deals across the city, including special two-course and three-course lunch menus for $20 or less and three-course dinner and brunch menus for $39 or less.
In 2020, more than 50 restaurants are set to participate, which is about a 50 percent decrease from last year.
Some new Coolinary participants for 2020 include Acorn, Backatown Coffee Parlour, Cafe Reconcile, Central City BBQ, Clesi’s Restaurant & Catering, Coterie Restaurant & Oyster Bar, Gattuso’s Neighborhood Restaurant & Bar, Lula Restaurant Distillery, Monkey Board, Napoleon House, Nola Caye, Rosie’s on the Roof, The Commissary and Zea Rotisserie & Bar in Harvey.
“The addition of take-out and delivery to the program will help our residents support these establishments in whatever way they feel most comfortable. We hope this is a time where we can rediscover New Orleans’ authentic spirit and fall in love with our hometown again,” said Stephen Perry, president and CEO of New Orleans & Company.
Coolinary New Orleans Restaurant Month is an annual campaign coordinated by New Orleans & Company, the city’s convention and and visitors bureau.
