Flamingos in the LSU Lakes: What’s behind the wacky Baton Rouge Mardi Gras tradition?

You can find lots of wildlife around the LSU lakes year-round. However, during Mardi Gras season a flock of flamingos appear for one day only and can disappear before you know it! This is all courtesy of one of Baton Rouge’s most popular krewes, the Krewe of Spanish Town. Our friends at The Louisiana Weekend caught up with Spanish Town board member, Robert King, to learn how the tradition got started and why it continues to this day.
