For the first time, the Miracle Christmas-themed pop-up bar heads to New Orleans, taking over two local craft cocktail spots. The inaugural pop-up will take place at Barrel Proof and Longway Tavern from Nov. 25 to Dec. 31.
Grab your gang and your ugliest Christmas sweater for the festive holiday experience. Each Miracle pop-up location will transform into over-the-top Christmas wonderlands, with kitschy holiday décor, tchotchkes inspired by nostalgic vintage Christmas decorations and a soundtrack of holiday songs.
Miracle at Longway Tavern takes on the theme of Santa’s Workshop, complete with elves, presents, gingerbread, and 5-foot tall dancing Santas.
Miracle at Barrel Proof will transform into a Kitschy Retro Christmas, decked out in 60’s and 70’s vintage Christmas gear and posters, along with plaid and vintage style wrapping paper that will wrap the entire bar.
Indoor laser Christmas lights will also light up the bar, and guests can write their names on a life-sized Santa’s naughty list. The decor also includes an enormous poster installation of the “Home Alone” quote, “Keep the change ya filthy animal.”
Robért LeBlanc, founder of New Orleans-based LeBLANC + SMITH hospitality group, says he’s “thrilled” about hosting the first-ever Miracle pop-up locations in New Orleans this holiday season.
“With each location decked out in holiday decor, including Kitschy Retro Christmas at Barrel Proof, and Santa’s Workshop at Longway Tavern, we can’t wait to welcome guests with themed quality cocktails and a festive experience unlike anything else in the city,” LeBlanc said.
A festive menu of signature cocktails is at the center of the experience. The bars will roll out unique and unusual cocktails that play on classic holiday flavors in playful mugs and glassware — drinks like Bad Santa, Snowball Old-Fashioned, Christmapolitan and Run Run Rudolph.
Even though this is Miracle’s first time coming to New Orleans, the “global phenomenon” has been around for six years.
The concept was born in New York’s East Village in 2014, when owner and creator of Miracle Greg Bohem first turned an unfinished bar into a holiday pop-up.
Now, in 2019, the Christmas concept expands to more than 100 international locations.
“Miracle has become a global phenomenon, and with the increasing popularity of Beachbum Berry’s Sippin’ Santa location at Latitude 29 in New Orleans, we had our sights set on bringing Miracle to New Orleans, too. We’re honored Miracle has recognized our commitment to offering guests an extraordinary experience and quality cocktails, and are looking forward to celebrating the holidays with all of New Orleans,” LeBlanc said.
In 2015, Miracle also launched a companion pop-up called Sippin’ Santa, that focuses on the themes of tiki and Christmas. In 2018, the company partnered with New Orleans’ influential cocktail personality Jeff “Beachbum” Berry, which will pop-up at 27 locations across North America for the 2019 Christmas season.
Sippin’ Santa will pop-up in none other than Beachbum Berry’s Latitude 29 in New Orleans, in addition to locations in Chicago, Sacramento, Washington D.C., Detroit, and at Boilermaker in New York City, the original outpost for the concept.
The Miracle pop-up opens from Monday, Nov. 25 to Tuesday, Dec. 31.
Miracle at Longway Tavern, 719 Toulouse Street, will open Mondays through Thursdays from 4 p.m. until close and Fridays to Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to close. Miracle at Barrel Proof, 1201 Magazine Street, will open daily from 4 p.m. until close.
Sippin’ Santa returns to Beachbum Berry’s Latitude 29, 321 North Peters Street, on Monday, November 25.
