Fried Chicken Fest 2019: Here’s where to eat fried chicken sandwiches at the fest

Fresh off the fried chicken sandwich debate that sparked social media wars, New Orleans gets to crown its own champion at the 2019 National Fried Chicken Fest.

Festival-goers can test out traditional and creative fried chicken dishes at Woldenberg Riverfront Park from Sept. 20 to Sept. 22.

More than 30 restaurants will provide unique spins on the iconic Southern dish, including nationally-renowned restaurants from Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Restaurants will compete for bragging rights in the festival’s two highly coveted tasting contests.

By the end of the three-day fest, only two vendors will get to claim the title of “Best Fried Chicken” or “Best Use of Fried Chicken in a Dish.” A distinguished panel of judges comprised of food critics, restaurateurs, members of the press and others will decide the ultimate fate.

In 2018, top honors went to first-time vendor Blue Oak BBQ’s spicy chicken sandwich for “Best Use of Fried Chicken in a Dish.” Now, chicken lovers rush the restaurant every Tuesday to score the special item. Longtime local favorite McHardy’s Chicken and Fixin’s scored a win for “Best Fried Chicken.”

Now, in its fourth year, it wouldn’t be surprising if the fried chicken sandwich debate takes center stage at the 2019 National Fried Chicken Fest.

Festival-goers can sink their teeth into at least a dozen chicken sandwiches from local vendors, including returning champion Blue Oak BBQ.

A list of vendors serving chicken sandwiches at the National Fried Chicken Festival, along with prices is outlined below. Want to know about other dishes at the fest? We also have details on the complete menu.
