The Black-owned restaurant, located at 2520 Felicity Street, has gained popularity since chef and owner Jeffery Heard launched the spot in 2015. Heard Dat Kitchen has even received recent shout-outs in national publications like the New York Times and Washington Post.

Yelp spotlighted one of the restaurant’s signature dishes, Bourbon Street Love. The popular item starts with fried, boneless chicken over a bed of macaroni and cheese, topped with a “crawdat” cream sauce.

Other signature dishes at the restaurant include items like the Superdome, which is blackened fish with lobster potatoes and cream sauce, and Mardi Gras Mambo, fried fish topped with cheese and crawdat sauce.

Yelp said it identified businesses in the restaurants and food categories with a large concentration of reviews mentioning “fried chicken,” then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning “fried chicken.” When available, all businesses on this list have a passing health score or a score greater than a B/80 as of  July 1, 2020.

Every restaurant on the list is also either open for dine-in or offering limited delivery, takeout, or curbside service as of July 1, 2020.
