Traditionally in Louisiana, Easter weekend kicks off the stretch of crawfish boils and festive gatherings throughout the spring season.
Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic and stay-at-home mandates in place, those large crawfish gatherings built into the fabric of New Orleans culture are totally off the table.
Luckily, since many crawfish vendors are typically take-out businesses by nature, you can still get your crawfish fix solo or with family already living in your households. Celebrating this local tradition also marks a good time to support local businesses trying to survive.
Many popular boiled seafood spots around the New Orleans area are still open and selling crawfish curbside, to-go or via delivery. Some restaurants, like Seither’s Seafood in Harahan, had to switch gears to survive in the new coronavirus climate.
Owner of Seither’s Seafood Jason Seither shifted operations into a to-go public wholesale seafood market, with pick-up seafood service in his parking lot and at Zuppardo’s Supermarket.
“I’m sure most of you that know me know I’m not going go out without a fight. I will do whatever It takes to protect my dream, my passion, and my way of life. They will have to rip my heart out of my chest to stop Seither’s,” Seither said in a Facebook post announcing changes to his business.

Many restaurants are taking safety measures to heart by implementing social distancing measures like ropes in front of counters, spacing in lines and limiting the amount of customers in stores.

Get your crawfish fix at this beloved Bucktown seafood spot near the Lake. Schaefer’s Seafood offers take-out, but the spot will only let in five customers at a time to help with social distancing efforts.

Gulf Coast Crawfish Co. is taking orders for curbside crawfish pick-ups. The vendor has been hosting a roadside pop-up at 4000 Tchopitoulas Street (and sometimes other locations). Customers can place orders in advance for pickup. For Good Friday, Gulf Coast Crawfish Co. allows people to place orders via the website or by calling 850-543-1100.
Clesi’s Restaurant and Catering
Clesi’s has gone curbside during the coronavirus pandemic. The Mid-City eatery is currently offering crawfish and limited menu items for curbside pickup or delivery. Customers can call-in orders at 504-909-0108 or order from their cars at the pick-up tent on Bienville Street.
Today’s Ketch Seafood and Restaurant
This mainstay in Chalmette recently launched an app and online site to help facilitate online orders for kitchen item and boiled crawfish. Today’s Ketch Seafood and Restaurant is also taking extra precautions for the safety of customers like setting up a rope to aid in social distancing and limiting the number of people allowed to enter the building.
NOLA Crawfish King
Chris “Shaggy” Davis, known as the NOLA Crawfish King, sets up shop at Happy Discount gas station in Gentilly on Franklin Avenue. Davis is selling hot boiled crawfish for take-out and delivery. He’s taking orders by phone at 504-259-0828.

Local Rouses Markets throughout the city typically do a great job of offering tasty crawfish at or below market prices. The store will close on Easter Sunday.
