Jazz Fest Music: Q&A with Tank and the Bangas

This local band and 2017 NPR Tiny Desk Contest winner plans to dominate the stage at Jazz Fest.

It’s a banging year for one of the hottest local bands on the rise, Tank and the Bangas.

The buzz around Tarriona “Tank” Ball and her band has been crazy, especially after the group recently gained national attention with their unanimous win of the 2017 NPR Tiny Desk Contest. The New Orleans group beat out more than 6,000 entries for the honor.

Tank and the Bangas’ unique sound blends several genres such as R&B, jazz and spoken word into a whimsical musical gumbo that will take listeners on a fun rollercoaster.

We caught up with the band while they began rehearsals for their upcoming Jazz Fest performance. Fans can catch the act this Saturday, May 6 from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Gentilly Stage.
