Bywater Bakery announces the return of its annual King’s Day Block Party on Monday, Jan. 6.
January 6th is often referred to as Epiphany, Twelfth Night or Three Kings’ Day commemorating the day the Bible says the three wise men reached baby Jesus. It is also a special day because it officially marks the start of Carnival and King Cake Season.
The annual event is free and open to the public from 11 am to 7 pm at Bywater Bakery located at the corner of Burgundy and Independence. There will be tons of musical acts with special guests Carvinal Time Johnson with Super Group including Fredy Lonzo, Corey Henry, Detroit Brooks, John Boutte, David Torkanowski, Herlin Riley, and Wendell Brunious, among others.

4:00 PM Renaissance School Marching Band full dress, street parade
5:30 PM Pinettes Brass Band
Mardi Gras Indians, Skeletons and Baby Dolls will also make an appearance throughout the day.
And you may want to come early so you can get your hands on a king cake. The special treat will be available whole and by the slice. Known for incorporating a signature twist on classic sweets into its cutting-edge king cakes, Bywater Bakery offers King cake lovers eight different flavors including the popular Chantilly King Cake and Bouille King Cake and new flavors Raspberry True King Cake, Azul Dulce Blueberry King Cake, and Pineapple Passionfruit King Cake. The bakery also brings back its savory line with Crawfish, Boudin and Spinach and Artichoke king cakes. Ms. Linda’s world famous Yaka Mein and Red Beans and Rice will also be available (it is Monday after all).
Foodies will most certainly be taken care of at the event and music fans have something to look forward to with entertainment by some of the best musicians the city has to offer.
