King Cake Hub announces its return to Mid City for the 2020 Carnival season.
With over 50 varieties of king cakes, the hub will hold its annual Carnival Kickoff event on Monday, January 6th from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Mystère Mansion, home of the Mortuary Haunted House.
The event will feature Benny Grunch and the Bunch, Panorama Brass Band, Professor Carl Nivale, Grand Marshal Marty Graw and other special guests culminating with the cutting of the first piece of king cake of Carnival.
Will Samuels, owner of the King Cake Hub says the hub will expand both the number of bakery partners as well as the number of king cake varieties offered including several exclusive flavors.
The Dragon Claw is a brand-new cake developed by Caluda’s Bakery featuring a flaky laminate Danish dough and a cream cheese icing. But you’ll have to act fast to get it. Only 50 will be made per day.
Other exclusive cakes include a Nutella version of last year’s best selling Epiphany King Cake, in partnership with Gambino’s Bakery. King cake lovers will also be able to pick up on a Chocolate Cream Cheese flavored cake from West bank favorite Hi-Do Bakery.
“We had a phenomenal first season with Carnival, 2019, and we are delighted to return to the Mystère Mansion for 2020,” said Samuels. He continued, “The location was in the heart of the city, the staff was great to work with, and the whole aspect of being inside this legendary haunted mansion and iconic New Orleans landmark made for the perfect environment in which to launch King Cake Hub.”
All bakery partners from King Cake Hub’s inaugural year will return including SugarLove Bakery, Bywater Bakery, Girls Gone Vegan, District, the Culinary Arts department of New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) and Houma based Cannata’s of which King Cake Hub is the exclusive New Orleans distributor. Additional bakery partners will be announced before carnival.
Several of the participating bakeries will offer specialty king cakes as part of the King Cake Coterie, the exclusive King Cake of the Week club. It will only be offered by pre-sale until December 31, 2019. Each week members will receive a specialty King Cake by one of the top bakers in the area beginning with the world premiere of the new Dragon Claw cake on January 6. Membership in the King Cake Coterie is limited, and a special version of the Coterie will be developed that can be shipped for those outside of New Orleans. As a special early-bird price, order the Coterie by October 31, 2019 and save $50.
Also new for 2020, a “Lunch & Learn” series will happen on Tuesdays from noon to 1 pm featuring a selection of carnival related workshops and discussions including live podcast recordings. The series is free and lunches will be available for pre-order. All events will be held at the King Cake Hub location.
