11 parades rolling Feb. 15-17: See parade schedules, maps, insider tips

Although the official parade season is a week away, nearly a dozen parades are scheduled this weekend in New Orleans and in St. Tammany, starting with the area’s newest walking club, Boheme, which promises striking costumes, imaginative floats, and myriad scenes of wonderment from its “inner krewes.” The artsy group rolls at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, from the Marigny into the French Quarter.

On Saturday, Feb, 16 in Slidell, the Bilge boat parade sails at Noon in Eden Isles. At 6 p.m., Poseidon rolls for the fourth time, with grand marshals Fox 8’s own Shelley Brown and Kim Holden. Look for real New Orleans Mardi Gras Indians, the Honey Island Clydesdales, and popular dance groups such as the Nyxettes, the 610 Stompers, and the Muff-a-Lottas. This 28-float parade rivals some in New Orleans in size and quality.

Also, on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Kenner, the 50th anniversary Driftwood neighborhood parade rolls with Spud McConnell as grand marshal. Thirty former kings and queens will also ride.

Starting at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Marigny and in the French Quarter, Krewe du Vieux and krewedelusion roll back-to-back with parades that are strictly for adults. Expect some anti-NFL sentiments to be expressed. Walter “Wolfman” Washington is King of duVieux.

On Sunday, Feb. 17, the Little Rascals parade will roll at noon in Metairie on the traditional route. At 1 p.m. the Pearl River Lions Club stages a big community parade off Highway 59.

There’s a nice double-header in Slidell starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday with the Slidellians and followed by Perseus, led by a new captain. Try to catch their special decorated plastic crabs.

Parading on a new day and starting time, ‘tit Rex rolls its 30 miniature floats through the Marigny starting at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
