Some of New Orleans’ popular Mardi Gras dance and marching groups will go head-to-head in a dance battle. The Krewe of BOO will host a Halfway to Halloween Dance-Off from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 at The Riverwalk Spanish Plaza.
The free outdoor event will feature celebrity judges, live DJ music, and giveaways with more than 300 competitors from 20 of New Orleans’ favorite dance krewes. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the event.
The dance-off was conceived by Brian Kern, whose aim is to make New Orleans a “premier destination on Planet Earth for Halloween.”
“New Orleans boasts some 45 dance and marching groups that participate in Mardi Gras parades and other local events. The Halfway to Halloween Dance-Off is the first time you can see nearly half of them perform together, and we think it’s a great event to get a taste of the creativity and sense of fun and community that is a part of every troupe,” said Kern, Krewe of BOO! parade and event founder.
The Amelia EarHawts, Camel Toe Steppers, Crescent City Fae, Dela-Who?, Disco Amigas, Lucha Krewe, MKFF’s Cherchez La Femme, Muff-A-Lottas, NOLA Bombshells, NOLA Cherry Bombs, NOLA Showgirls, Organ Grinders, Oui Dats, Pussyfooters, Rolling Elvi, Roux La La, Sirens, Tap Dat and other groups will participate. Also, Monster Energy’s break dance crew, “Monster BBoys,” winners of the 2017 UK B-Boy Championships will perform.
The Halfway to Halloween Dance-Off will host a Halloween costume drive to benefit Ween Dream, a national nonprofit founded in New Orleans with a vision to ensure all children have a costume to wear at Halloween.
