A Metairie art collector’s folk art ornaments lands on “Oprah’s Favorite Things” list.
Gitter Gallery announced its Clementine Hunter Christmas ornaments are included in this year’s Oprah’s Favorite Things holiday gifts list featured in the December issue of O, The Oprah Magazine.
The Oprah’s Favorite Things list is the guide of all holiday guides featuring the most decadent desserts, ingenious gadgets, and finest finds in home, fashion and beauty.
“I’ve collected work by Clementine Hunter, a self-taught painter who grew up working on a Louisiana plantation, for some time now. When I saw these handmade glass Christmas ornaments, each portraying one of Hunter’s pastoral scenes, I was reminded of how art speaks in many forms,” Oprah Winfrey said in the December issue of O, The Oprah Magazine.
The Clementine Hunter Christmas ornaments are derived from her works and skillfully reproduced by Gitter Gallery. Each hand-blown glass Christmas ornament is meticulously hand-sculpted and hand-painted by highly skilled artisans. The best part about the ornaments is that no two are alike.
Gitter Gallery has assembled the best artisans to recreate Clementine Hunter’s memories.
Hunter’s work reflects what she observed on the Melrose Plantation in Louisiana. Her famous paintings of cotton pickings, washdays, pecan pickings, weddings, baptisms and other scenes of life on Melrose have made her works an important part of American history.
Here’s what Doug Gitter, owner of Gitter Gallery had to say about the collection:
