Mardi Gras Uber Guide

Getting around during Mardi Gras is tough, so Uber is going to be something lots of people rely on.  Fans of the ride service will no doubt be interested in the company’s guidelines for the parades, which were recently posted to Uber’s website.

The primary thing to be aware of beforehand is “the box,” a section of the city which will be treated differently than areas outside of it.  The box stretches from Tchoupitoulas to St. Charles, from Napoleon to Canal.

Requesting a destination inside of the box requires that a person have a pickup spot inside the box as well, while a destination outside of the box likewise requires a starting point outside of the box.  So don’t expect a ride from Prytania up to Claiborne, for example.

Likewise, the ride app recommends you look at pricing before you book.  Included in your ride agreement is a promise to pay for any cleanup charges incurred.  Planning to drink your weight in vodka?  Don’t get sick in your ride or you could be on the hook for $100-200.  Glitter and feathers spraying off of your costume?  That could run you between $25 – $100.  The full list of cleaning fees is here.

Don’t want to pay for an Uber?  Public transportation is also an option.
