Mardi Gras World debuts Halloween-themed photo attraction featuring float props

Mardi Gras World debuts a new attraction that transforms float props usually seen in parades, like the Krewe of BOO!, into a Halloween-themed experience this October.

The themed photo experience, called NOLAween, incorporates the artistry of Mardi Gras World’s most iconic props to create memorable moments for photo ops in a socially-distant setting.

Visitors can post for selfies at 15 Halloween-themed sets including supersized skeletons, witches, jack-o’-lanterns and other newly-built Halloween props, some as tall as 14 feet high.

According to a spokesperson, NOLAween progressed from just a photo op idea to a full-on walkthrough section separated into different areas. The new attraction takes elements pulled from Krewe of BOO! Halloween parade concepts to create the vibe of specific scenes.

Along with the photo opportunities, children can participate with a scavenger hunt within the NOLAween photo area, and receive a treat bag from the gift shop when their scavenger hunt is completed. Children are encouraged to wear costumes to take pictures within the area.

With many Halloween-themed events getting the axe due to the pandemic, Mardi Gras World said they launched the stroll to keep the festive spirit of the holiday alive.

During the coronavirus-era, Mardi Gras World has become a self-guided tour opportunity with signage placed throughout. This has allowed guests to explore more at their leisure, rather than feeling they must stay with a group at all times. Additionally, the 250,000 square-foot warehouse helps with social distancing in the facility.

Mardi Gras World will require all guests to wear masks and physically distance from other parties experiencing respective areas. Hand sanitizer stations are also provided throughout the facility.

Admission to the NOLAween is a free add-on to the regular Mardi Gras World self-guided tours. Each tour begins with a 15-minute video followed by a self-guided tour of the artists working on hundreds of props and floats for next year’s Mardi Gras and the additional NOLAween photo area.

Tours run daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $22 for adults, $17 for military and seniors and $14 for children, with a $4 discount when purchased online or at the door, with the code “NOLAween.”
