The Myrtles Plantation: ‘One of America’s Most Haunted Homes’

Dare to take a tour at this haunted plantation.

Stories of ghosts and hauntings have surrounded the Myrtles Plantation since the property was built circa 1796. Guests can experience the mystery of the antebellum plantation touted as “one of America’s most haunted homes” in St. Francisville, La.

The site offers daily tours of the home and bed and breakfast accommodations. Proprietor Morgan Moss says a new, revamped tour makes now the best time to visit the Myrtles Plantation for both first-timers and returning guests.

“We decided to mix things up and go a little bit of a different route here in 2017,” Moss said.

Initially, the Myrtles Plantation offered two separate tours of the home — one specifically focusing on the plantation’s history and a second centered around the hauntings and mystery. Now, the site has merged the two tours into a new Myrtles tour which focuses on the history, mystery and intrigue of the plantation.

We talked with Moss and tour director Hester Eby about how the Myrtles Plantation has gained national recognition for the reported hauntings and what visitors can expect from the new tour.
