New Italian concept taking over former Bravo restaurant at Lakeside Shopping Center

A new Italian restaurant from a New Orleans restaurant group is taking shape inside the former Bravo! Cucina Italiana location at Lakeside Shopping Center.

A Tavola is the latest restaurant heading to the Metairie dining scene from Creole Cuisine Restaurant Concepts, a local company operating 19 restaurants spanning upscale to casual, including Broussard’s, NOSH, Royal House and Flamingo-A-Go-Go.

“In Italian, a Tavola means ‘let’s eat’ or ‘at the table’,” said Marv Ammari, CEO of Creole Cuisine. “The people of Jefferson Parish have been so welcoming to us and we love being a part of the restaurant scene here. We cannot wait to offer another concept where they can conveniently eat at our tables along Veterans Blvd.”

The longtime Metairie restaurant Bravo! Cucina Italiana, a national chain owned by FoodFirst Global Restaurants, announced in March that it would not reopen after coronavirus restrictions were lifted.

The new Italian concept will mark Creole Cuisine’s third restaurant in its growing Jefferson Parish footprint. The company currently operates two Boulevard American Bistro locations in the parish, with the second location recently opening in Harahan this May.

During a time when many eateries are facing hardships, Creole Cuisine says it’s using the pandemic as a time to “look ahead toward the future.”

“We have made the decision to look ahead toward the future and use this time now to polish our restaurants, tighten up what we have, so that we are ready to fully open and receive guests again when the time comes to welcome visitors back to our city,” Ammari said in an e-mail.

A part of that future means establishing a “mutually beneficial relationship” with the area’s premier shopping destination to offer a local dining option.

“Our customers love to experience new dining options and adding a local dining option with table service to the center was long overdue. Creole Cuisine has carefully developed a Tavola making it the perfect addition to Lakeside’s current tenant mix, ” said Tricia Phillpott, General Manager and Leasing Manager of Lakeside Shopping Center.

A spokesperson for Creole Cuisine says the projected opening date for a Tavola is late November 2020.
