Condé Nast Traveler magazine released a list of the “Best Cities in the U.S.” after more than 800,000 people weighed in on the publication’s 34th annual Readers’ Choice Awards.

New Orleans was the only Louisiana city making the cut, taking a spot among the top three.

The ranking placed the Crescent City as the third best “big” city in the U.S., coming in behind Chicago and New York City. New Orleans also beat out other heavy-populated cities like Boston and Washington, D.C.

The travel magazine sites several popular attractions making New Orleans a highly-desired destination including Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, Cafe du Monde and Preservation Hall jazz.

But the magazine says those obvious reasons aren’t the only thing making New Orleans special.

The publication goes on to say, “there’s so much more to this soulful city. Its Creole, Cajun, and French roots inform everything from the music on Frenchman Street to the food and cocktails in in the French Quarter over to the Bywater.”

Another interesting point to note: Atlanta did not make this list.

Here’s the magazine’s full ranking of the 10 best big cities in the country:

  1. Chicago, Illinois
  2. New York City, New York
  3. New Orleans, Louisiana
  4. Boston, Massachusetts
  5. San Fransisco, California
  6. Washington, D.C.
  7. San Diego, California
  8. Portland, Oregon
  9. Honolulu, Hawaii
  10. Nashville, Tennessee

The website also ranked the top 10 small cities in the country. Aspen, Colorado took the top spot on that list.

Other smaller cities featured in the ranking include Charleston, South Carolina; Key West, Florida; and Savannah, Georgia.
