New restaurant and bar, Commons Club, set to open inside Virgin Hotel New Orleans

Virgin Hotels New Orleans offers an early look at its new restaurant, bar and lounge ahead of opening later this summer in the Warehouse District.

Commons Club New Orleans is set to debut as a “modern social club” on the hotel’s ground floor. The hotel’s centerpiece restaurant and bar will showcase three different spaces for drinking and dining, according to a release.

The Kitchen at Commons Club will feature an “eclectic and inviting dining room,” as well as a communal Chef’s Table surrounding the open kitchen, relaxed indoor “porch” seating, and private dining rooms.

Executive chef Alex Harrell will head the food and beverage program at Commons Club, who previously led kitchens at Elysian Bar and Angeline. For the menu at Commons Club, Harrell will showcase contemporary Southern seasonal cuisine with Mediterranean influences.

Small, medium and large plates will cater to multiple dining needs, from light bites with friends over drinks to a decadent, celebratory meal. Diners can expect “imaginative dishes” including Bluefin Tuna Crudo with green tomatoes and tomato water; Grilled Okra with harissa; and Sourdough Cavatelli with pesto Calabrese and charred eggplant, the hotel said.

The Bar at Commons Club will welcome a mix of live New Orleans entertainment and offer “thoughtfully-crafted cocktails,” a curated wine and Champagne selection, and tempting bar bites.

Bar offerings will feature cocktails created to compliment Harrell’s cuisine. “Artfully-curated libations” will include cocktails such as the Dragon Smoke, made with Montelobos Mezcal Joven, Conzano 1757 Rosso, rosemary-infused Campari, orange bitters and a flamed orange swath.

Another space, called the Shag Room, features an intimate setting with a living room-style atmosphere set against a central fireplace and bar. The Shag Room will feature colorful furniture with ample seating, equestrian decoupage wallpaper, a smokey mirrored ceiling and locally-curated New Orleans art.
