Families in Lafourche Parish get a new spot to cool off this summer. A new splash pad is now open at Thibodaux Municipal Pool.
The Thibodaux Splash Pad brings more than 2,500 square feet of fun with 24 separate water features, including sprinklers and fountains, synchronized to perform a show-like experience. The water area also sits in close proximity to picnic areas, umbrella seating and the newly renovated swimming pool making it a great summer time draw for families.
Kevin Clement, director of the Thibodaux Parks and Recreation Department, says the Splash Zone is the area’s main attraction. In the Splash Zone, kids can look forward to a huge bucket that dumps more than 50 gallons of water at one time.
“This happens every minute and kind of builds with anticipation as the bucket tilts and totters forward,” Clement said.
Clement says the City of Thibodaux invested around $150,000 this year in this project, and even more additions are coming. When completed, the entire area will contain more than 4,000 square feet of water activites.
He also pointed out one of the stand-out upcoming additions targeted to younger park goers called the “Water Journey.”
“This Water Journey is sort of a real life experience where the participants can learn how to direct and redirect the flow of water using windmills, sluices and dams,” he said.
Although the official date has yet to be confirmed, Clement says that there are plans for a grand opening celebration for the current splash park sometime during July.
