New spot for boozy sno-balls, Nola Sips SnoBar and Bistro, opens just in time for summer

A new restaurant and bar serving Instagram-worthy, boozy sno-balls brings cool treats to the Ninth Ward, just in time for summer.

Nola Sips SnoBar and Bistro opens at 2633 St. Claude Avenue, replacing the spot previously occupied by Freezy Street which closed in December 2020 due to the pandemic.

Owner Stricen Carter, who also owns the Sweet Thangs by NOLA Sips sno-ball stand in Mid-City, is behind the new venture specializing in boozy sno-balls and her signature Capri Sun-style pouch cocktails.

At Carter’s Mid-City location, she’s gained a following for her “designer” sno-balls — over-the-top creations loaded with endless sweet toppings like candy, ice cream, cheesecake and Little Debbie snacks. The young entrepreneur launched her career as a regular second-line vendor selling her NOLA Sips pre-packaged pouch drinks as on-the-go cocktails.

This new spot on St. Claude Avenue features a small restaurant setting with a full bar where visitors can customize their sno-ball with an assortment of flavors, fresh fruit, candy toppings and shots of premium liquor brands.

In addition to sno-balls, boozy or not, the bistro also serves a menu of elevated concession stand-inspired food, including Creole crawfish Rotel nachos, loaded crawfish fries, wings and burgers. Also on the menu are the signature NOLA Sips pouch cocktails, in flavors like vodka strawberry lemonade and Hennessey-based peach mango.

From the eye-catching sno-balls to the vibrant decor, Nola Sips SnoBar and Bistro infuses a kaleidoscope of colors into every detail. Guests are greeted by an eye-popping “NOLA” wall mural by St. Rose artist and visual arts teacher Deante Armstrong and a glittery epoxy bar countertop with colorful lantern lights.

That lively character also extends to weekly events at the bistro: Taco Tuesday with a happy hour from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and a karaoke party on Wednesdays with happy hour from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Nola Sips SnoBar and Bistro opens Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight. The restaurant is closed on Monday.
