Polo Ralph Lauren opens its first New Orleans retail location inside the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk.
The Outlet Collection at the Riverwalk announced the new addition during an unprecedented time, as some retailers face nationwide closures during the pandemic.
The new 10,000 square-foot store takes over the former Dress Barn location inside the downtown outlet mall. This is the second Louisiana location for the preppy sportswear brand.
“Given the current environment we’re facing with the pandemic, we consider success right now to be the ability to be open to the public and offer designer brands at outlet prices to the residents and visitors of New Orleans as safely as possible. Fortunately, the Riverwalk has been able to replace recent closures over the past few years with stronger brands like Kate Spade in the former Gymboree location and Ralph Lauren Polo in the former Dress Barn location, and we’re welcoming The Cosmetics Store and Rock N’ Roll Sushi to the mall as well this summer,” Frank Quinn, Outlet Collection at the Riverwalk general manager said in a statement.
Under Phase Two guidelines, the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk is currently open to the public at 50 percent capacity. Select retailers are also offering curbside pickup.
“Currently, over 70 percent of our stores are back open with additional stores opening back up every week. We’re seeing an increase every week in foot traffic from local, regional and national visitors, and we’re happy that we’re able to do it safely with mask requirements, proper social distancing measures, and increased sanitization efforts throughout the mall.” Quinn said.
A spokesperson confirms construction began this month on two new restaurants opening on Spanish Plaza. Local family-owned restaurants Copeland’s Wharfhouse and Rizzuto’s Pizzeria are slated to open later this year.
Copeland’s Wharfhouse, the new restaurant from the famed local restaurateur Al Copeland, Jr., will serve classic Louisiana cuisine while overlooking the scenic Mississippi River.
Rizzuto’s Pizzeria is the second location for the Lakeview-based Rizzuto’s Ristorante & Chop House founded by the Rizzuto Family in 2017. The new restaurant will offer classic and casual Sicilian cuisine.
Alabama-based restaurant, Rock N’ Roll Sushi, will also open its first New Orleans location inside the main shopping center next month. The regional favorite has more than 35 franchise locations across the South.
The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk says its also offering free downtown parking this month in its “whale lot” for locals. Louisiana residents can get free parking when they spend a minimum of $20 at any of the stores within The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk.
To claim, shoppers can visit one of our security tables located at Julia Street entrance near Nordstrom Rack or at our Poydras entrance near Le Creuset. Customers will need to present their receipt and a valid Louisiana ID to redeem a complimentary parking ticket. This promotion is valid July 1 to July 31, 2020.
This year marks the sixth anniversary of the grand opening of the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, since reopening in 2014 after an $80 million transformation.
Formerly the site of the 1984 World’s Fair, the location was developed into the Riverwalk Marketplace in 1986.
The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, owned by the Howard Hughes Corporation, is located at 500 Port of New Orleans Place in New Orleans along the Mississippi River.
