The popular Uptown neighborhood taco stand and margarita garden Barracuda is expanding to the West Bank. The restaurant is set to open its second location in historic Algiers Point on June 3.
Known for its fresh takes on classic Mexican staples, Barracuda’s Algiers Point location, at 446 Pelican Avenue, will offer current menu staples with its focus on thin, Sonoran-style flour tortillas, fresh draft margaritas and accessible, easy-going dining.
Founder Brett Jones said he chose Algiers Point for his second location because of the area’s “sense of community and neighborhood focus,” according to a release.
Barracuda’s new location transforms the old Gulf building into its new digs, which was previously once a gas station and a pizza spot.
The new Barracuda outpost will offer walk-up counter service and extensive shaded, covered patio seating across from the nearby Confetti Park. The Algiers Point location will offer a familiar experience to the original taco stand with the classic menu staples, including the beloved Deluxe customization, with griddled cheese & guacamole, cocktails to stay or to-go, as well as a takeaway menu that includes family-style meals, packaged flour tortillas and fresh salsas.
Guests can enjoy their meals in the 50-seat margarita garden that once was a historic neighborhood landmark but is now restored and refreshed with Barracuda touches such as cactus garden, soft lighting to illuminate the space.
Opening hours for Barracuda’s Algiers Point location are noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday through Sunday.
The original Barracuda, located at 3984 Tchoupitoulas Street, opened in April 2019.
