One recent reopening after Hurricane Ida offers an air-conditioned escape from post-storm cleanup.
Prytania Theatres at Canal Place, at 333 Canal Street, reopens for business, owners of the independent theater announced via Facebook.
“Go check out a movie, enjoy the cold air and escape reality for a few hours,” the post said.
The theater will screen recent big releases Marvel’s “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” and the Nia DaCosta-directed horror sequel “Candyman.” Concessions –including popcorn, nachos, cold soft drinks and candy – are available for purchase.
Prytania Theatre’s single-screen historic Uptown location will remain closed while clean-up from Hurricane Ida is finished, owners said in the Facebook post.
Current movies screening at Prytania Theatres at Canal Place:
Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Paw Patrol: The Movie

Another independent movie theater also plans to reopen to the public after Hurricane Ida.
In a Facebook post, Zeitgeist Theatre & Lounge in Arabi announced plans to reopen on Friday, Sept. 10.
The Broad Theater hasn’t announced reopening plans as of yet.
