‘Queen of Bounce’ house float attracts twerking visitors, scores visit from Big Freedia

One adoring fan, Sarena Teng, shows her love for the "Queen of Bounce" with a house float celebrating Big Freedia.

Around the world, Big Freedia is already a household name.

But for the first time in New Orleans, she serves as the first-ever Grand Marshal for the Krewe of House Floats.

One adoring fan, Sarena Teng, shows her love for the “Queen of Bounce” with a house float on Laurel Street. Located at 4321 Laurel Street, the house float is appropriately titled “Queen of Bounce House.”

“I love that she is just authentically herself,” Teng said.

On the homeowner’s front porch, a cutout of the “Queen Diva” takes center stage, surrounded by fun and flashy decorations.

“I knew if I was going to do a Big Freedia house I needed to have twerkers,” Teng said. “But I also knew I couldn’t be lewd because there were going to be kids here.”

Teng says many people who pass by just can’t help but feel the beat.

“Just that beat catches you, and it just puts a smile on your face,” Teng said. “And a little bounce in your step.”

Like Big Freedia’s music, the energy is contagious, attracting dancers with choreographed routines and people who just want to release their wiggle.

“And there was so much joy in it. Everybody was like having a good time,” Teng said. “Like come, come twerk in my yard.”

The positive vibes even scored her a visit from the “Queen Diva” herself.

“So to have her here on my porch, to be in between the two Big Freedias like a big Freedia sandwich, was probably the highlight of my life so far,” Teng said.

It’s a dream come true after a tough year for Teng, who is also also a medical professional.

“In March, we were all redeployed to the COVID ICU. It was pretty terrible,” Teng said. “And I think that’s why right now having this..these house floats to hold on to for the joy and the hope it’s meant so much to me.”

Her house is inspiring joy, and lots of laughs, for anyone who wants to visit.
