Here's a sneak peek inside the new location.
Popular local brunch spot the Ruby Slipper Café will open a new flagship restaurant in Mid-City on Dec. 22.
The current Mid-City location on Cortez Street will close its doors permanently after service on Sunday, Dec. 17. The Cortez Street location is the original Ruby Slipper that opened in May 2008. The restaurant plans to move to a new, larger Mid-City location at 315 N. Broad Street.
The Ruby Slipper will also debut a new menu when the new location opens. The menu includes new items like Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Boozy Iced Coffee alongside traditional favorites like Bananas Foster Pain Perdu and Chicken St. Charles.
The two-story, 10,000-square-foot Broad Street location was originally home to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters in the 1950’s before becoming vacant. The new Mid-City location will feature 125-seats, room for private events, wraparound balcony, and outside seating. The entrance is in the rear of the building, facing Banks Street. Outdoor seating, a children’s play area and an on-site parking lot are also among the amenities. The location will also house the company’s corporate offices and a commissary kitchen.
“We are excited to have our new location in Mid-City serve as our flagship restaurant,” said Jennifer Weishaupt, co-owner of The Ruby Slipper Café. “This neighborhood is our home and this community is what originally inspired us to create The Ruby Slipper Café, and we’re humbled to be opening here once again.”
